Bride on Fire

This is an example of leveraging your work space when conditions are not so good. When I first arrive to a location I have not visited, I immediately seek out my light sources, candescent light, spots, daylight etc. In this case I made my own, it was Christmas lights.

So I was sitting in this really small crowded, messy apartment waiting for the bride to get her dress on. My mind and eyes were darting around trying to find a light source that I could leverage in a space. I happened to look down next to me and notice a box of Christmas lights. So I thought, perhaps I can do something with these, but realized I needed a darker space. So I asked the apartment owner if she could clear her bed.

I hung up the comforter over the window to close out the light in this tightly cramped and hot room. I grabbed a chair and setup the lights around the bride so they would illuminate around her and under her dress. The trick was getting the right exposure and right white balance. I had my assistant use a small video and instructed her to point the light at her face and we adjusted the intensity of the light. The light was metered and 3 shots where with at about 13mm. Post production included white balance adjustment, a little color correction and a little Photoshop to make the wires not so obvious.
